I loved reading "A Souvenir for My Mom" . It took me through the highlights of that day in such a fascinating way. It almost felt like being there with the people. It was so vividly captured too that I felt I knew the people by the time I watched the videos online.
I also had such a good laugh.........didnt put the book down until I finished reading it.....
I remember that day quite well.
I dont usually rush out of work at the close of day. However, this was no ordinary day!I must have been the first out the doors on the 20th of January!I didnt want to miss much more than was necessary.I got home switched on the TV AND the computer.I wanted to watch the TV coverage but also wanted to watch it online,CNN Live, so I could see all the different views and angles and all!Didnt want to miss a thing!!

The Inauguration was an excellent experience in which I captured hour by hour through footage and then wrote a book, A Souvenir For My Mom, based on the experience. My mom was unable to attend and wanted something to remember the occasion like a t-shirt or something. I decided to capture the experience and give that to her instead.

And of course BLOG about your experience (What's Your Inauguration 2009 Story?). Whether you made it to DC or not. Let’s preserve history and document our experiences ...

Here is my Inauguration Day story:
Sitting on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington on Inauguration Day, I recalled a conversation I had at the Democratic National Convention in Denver last August with Ida Taylor of Carson, California, a volunteer who worked with me at the Convention.
I was walking one morning near Mile High Stadium with Ida, a Democratic Party loyalist and veteran civil rights activist. The view toward the West was magnificent: the towering Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.
Ida and I were talking about the legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She had marched with Dr. King and could quote some of his speeches from memory.

Yes, I drove down from Ohio to be there. Because of the economy, I had decided to curtail any traveling this year. Then a friend from Cleveland called and asked me to go to the inauguration with her because she had some coveted tickets. My first answer was no due to my previously mentioned resolve. But, after thinking it over, looked at the fact that we were driving, staying with her friend, so the cost would be minimal, and it was such an historical event, I changed my mind.
