In my new book,“Facebook Addiction: The Life & Times of Social Networking Addicts”, there is a character named Zoe Mecklin that sets up a Facebook Account for her Yorkshire Terrier, Fluffy. The goal of this entry was to profile some real Facebook users that have set up FB Accounts for their pets. Here is an excerpt from “Facebook Addiction”(Chapter 10): “Fluffy is my beautiful Yorkie, you know, Yorkshire Terrier. She is absolutely FABULOUS. I love Fluffy so much and felt that she needed her own Facebook profile page.” Here are some real Facebook Pet Stories and Associated Accounts: Sandra Foyt says: My daughter set up a Facebook page for Yoohoo, our Chocolate Lab: He’s popular with her teen friends, and creates a hub for communicating between the digital immigrants and digital natives. Ralph Nye says: We started up a facebook page for our 2 year old Labradoodle when we first got her at age 5 months. Since then, her facebook page has added over 500 friends, most of which are other dogs, but also some human family members. Scott Piro says: My 5 month old puppy has his own facebook page. It was his idea; he insisted - said all the other dogs at the dog park had them. I'm Scott Piro, and he is Petey Piro. We're both publicly searchable. We live in Tel Aviv, Israel. I rescued Pete from a shelter two months ago. Leora Israel says: Hi I have profiles for my two bunny rabbits. :) Shayna’s Facebook Page | Shimon’s Facebook Page Val Heart’s dog Einstein even has his own Fan Page: Einstein’s Fan Page

Learn about Facebook's Terms of Service Those animal Facebook profiles that you have referenced above violate Facebook's terms of service, which means Facebook might delete them at any time. I wouldn't want to put that much work into a profile that Facebook might take down. If people want to create profiles for their pets, they should use: http://apps.facebook.com/catbook/ http://apps.facebook.com/dogbook/ I don't know if there are similar apps for rabbits and other pets. For further information about how Facebook reacts to violations of its terms of service, see this article in Time Magazine: http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1917878,00.html @CarriBugbee |
